At last night’s meeting, the MUSD Board of Trustees welcomed back Tom Baumgarten as Superintendent of the board. Baumgarten had taken a temporary leave of absence from the board due to a personal illness. The board then authorized the advertisement for bids for numerous school facility updates and improvements. The updates include installing new playground equipment at Condor Elementary, Friendly Hills Elementary, Oasis Elementary, Onaga Elementary, Palm Vista Elementary, Twentynine Palms Elementary, Yucca Mesa Elementary, and the Plus Program; installing new walk-in freezer units for the District’s expanded meal programs at Friendly Hills Elementary, Landers Elementary, Yucca Valley Elementary, and the District offices; installing Phase-1 sewer system connections at District schools in Yucca Valley, installing new flooring at Friendly Hills Elementary, Morongo Valley Elementary, and Twentynine Palms Elementary; re-painting at Condor Elementary School, Yucca Mesa Elementary School, and the District offices; and re-roofing at Yucca Valley High School. The board was also treated to a performance from the La Contenta Middle School Advanced Band and Choir, approved a Supplemental Employment Agreement with Dr. Deborah Turner for her time as acting Superintendent, voted for six candidates for the 2019 CSBA Delegate Assembly, adopted the 2019-2022 Sunshine Agreement with the California School Employment Association, and approved and adopted two school district grants: one to assist low-performing students and one for school meal program equipment.
