SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM PROJECT

Among the numerous topics for the Morongo Unified School District board of trustees to tackle at last night’s meeting, was a proposed $2 million plan for the modernization of the sports stadium at Twentynine Palms High School. After viewing a presentation on the plan from district Director of Maintenance and Operations David Daniels, the board voted unanimously to begin the planning phase by authorizing bids for the project, including replacement synthetic turf and synthetic track. Also at last night’s meeting, Assistant Superintendent Mike Ghelber lead the board in recognizing 47 district employees for their 20, 25, and 30 years of service to the district, as well as the retirement of 33 district employees for both 2020 and 2021. The board also accepted a $6 million Expanded Learning Opportunities Grant Plan, most of which is slated to be used for the district’s upcoming summer learning program; and unanimously approved to rename the Yucca Valley High School lecture hall in honor of former teacher John W. Frakes, Jr.

The board also held a public hearing on, then unanimously approved, proposed amendments and updates to the Annual Budget and Service Plan for the 2021-2022 SELPA Local Plan; approved using district Education Protection Account funds for teacher salaries, approved $150,000 in asphalt repaving at 9 district sites, and approved the memorandum of understanding on the partnership agreement between the district and Copper Mountain College on the College and Careers Access Pathways (CCAP) program.
