SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES MODIFIED GRADUATION EVENTS AT SPECIAL MEETING FRIDAY

The Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees held a special videoconference meeting on Friday, May 15, to discuss numerous requests from students and parents of students to allow some form of an in-person graduation event for Morongo Basin seniors. The meeting featured comments and extensive graduation plans from student representatives and the Principals from Yucca Valley, Twentynine Palms, and Black Rock high schools. After much discussion on possible event ideas and current County guidelines on limited gatherings, the board ultimately agreed to hold both the planned virtual graduation ceremonies on Z107.7FM scheduled for June, and allow modified drive-up graduation events to be directed by the principals of each high school. The board emphasized that the safety of students must be prioritized, ordering each school to adhere to social distancing and limited gathering guidelines for the events.
