SCHOOL BOARD ACCEPTS GRANTS FOR HOMELESSNESS AND BOND EFFORT

The Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees had a lengthy agenda to tackle during last night’s marathon 3 ½ hour meeting. Among the topics was the acceptance of a $195,000 grant from the San Bernardino County Homeless Partnership, which will provide eviction prevention and temporary housing for homeless and at-risk families and youth within the school district. At last night’s meeting, the MUSD board of Trustees also held an informational meeting on using a recent $100,000 donation from the 29 Palms Band of Mission Indians to pursue a new district improvement bond during the March, 2020 primary election. The board also honored the retirement of 11 teachers from across the district, including Assistant Superintendent Deborah Turner, who served the district for 36 years. The board also approved the purchase of three new district textbooks, approved four contracts with venders who provide food for student meals, and approved the 2019-2020 board meeting calendar. Lastly; the board designated new CIF representatives for Twentynine Palms High School (Principal Michael Rugiero and Athletic Director Jeremy Johnson) and Yucca Valley High School (Principal Justin Monical and Athletic Director Adam Wright); and held public hearings on the Local Control Accountability Plan and the proposed 2019-2020 district budgets; there was no public comment on any topic.
