SCHOOL BOARD ACCEPTS $1.1 MILLION LAND DONATION

The Morongo Unified School District Board of Trustees enthusiastically accepted a recent donation to the district of nearly 32 acres of land, located between Yucca Valley High School and the Big Lots shopping center, at last night’s Board meeting. Superintendent Tom Baumgarten stated that the District is immensely grateful for the donation, and emphasized that the District must now thoroughly survey the land and develop a list of potential uses for the land before any ground is broken. Three land parcels, totaling 31.77 acres, recently donated to the Morongo Unified School District. The parcels sit between Yucca Valley High School and the Big Lots shopping center in Yucca Valley.

At last night’s meeting, the MUSD Board of Trustees also honored Joshua Tree Elementary School third-grader Eva Bocook as the winner of the California School Nutrition Association’s art contest. Bocook’s entry “Child Nutrition – Leading the Way” took first place in the K-4th grade category in the statewide contest.

The board also received a public relations update on how the school district has been using social media to communicate with the community and parents of students, began the process of applying for California state matching funds for future MUSD facilities projects, and authorized a $512,000 contract for the replacement of playground equipment at eight district schools.
