Morongo Basin students from kindergarten to sixth grade are eligible for a free back-to-school backpack from Lighthouse Christian Center. Students with a parent or guardian may pick up their backpack on Saturday, August 6 between 10 a.m. and noon with registration starting at 9 a.m. The giveaway happens at 5475 Sunburst in Joshua Tree. Come for a backpack, stay for the petting zoo, face painting, animal balloons, fire truck and special prizes. There are a limited number of backpacks and distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis.
