On last week’s episode of the z107.7 Up Close Show, Host Gary Daigneault spoke to Eric Sherwin, Public Information Officer for the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Daigneault asked Sherwin about our community’s exposure to fire danger, to which he said “The desert does burn and it does burn fiercely and quickly. So where the desert can lack a contiguous fuel bed, where we have acres and acres of grass, it’s spotty, but the winds are more consistent out here and does carry it from growth to growth to growth.
And eventually, it’s going to meet a community or residential area. So that threat is very real. What can we do?
Removing brush, creating that defensible space around your home, and using construction types and features that inhibit structures from igniting.
And when we talk about preparedness and creating plans, it’s a united effort. It’s the community part working with those public safety entities, your local fire community, the National Park Service, the National Forests to create a plan that minimizes or reduces the ability of fire to translate into the community.”
