Carlos Santana pioneered the fusion of rock with Latin and African rhythms highlighting percussion beats not generally heard in rock music. “Smooth Sounds of Santana” tonight at Tortoise Rock’s Live at the Rock pays tribute to Santana’s half century of classics like “Black Magic Woman,” “Oye Como Va,” “Evil Ways,” and dozens more. The Smooth Sounds of Santana hits the outdoor stage at Twentynine Palms’ only casino tonight at 8 p.m. with the promise to come as close as possible to not only sound like, but look like a Santana concert event. From the tone of the guitars to the notes of the keyboards and percussion, you’ll hear that iconic Santana sound. The free Live at the Rock concert series happens every Friday night through October.
