A record 24 more deaths from COVID-19 and 2,347 new cases of the coronavirus were recorded in San Bernardino County on Wednesday, July 29, as the county more than doubled the highest number of new cases recorded in any previous day. The county dashboard notes that “a large amount of data was entered into the database because of a backlog of cases over the past several days. This caused a spike in the number of new cases. The 8,044 tests entered Wednesday is a record. But the previous few days also included big increases. The seven days ending Tuesday, July 28, saw the largest number of COVID-19 deaths in a week so far — 62 people — and Monday, July 27, saw 1,139 new cases, the highest one-day increase since the pandemic began.
The confirmed cases here in the Morongo Basin went up 10 to 184, Yucca Valley up to 105; Joshua Tree, 34; Twentynine Palms, 24; Morongo Valley, 18; Landers, two; and Pioneertown, one.
Wednesday’s update sets a new record for the most deaths in a seven-day period — 82. And it’s the most new cases in a week — 6,534 — as well as a two-week period, with 10,841 cases confirmed in the past 14 days.
