San Bernardino County has seen its highest one-week total of coronavirus-related deaths to date, though the number of hospitalizations appears to be leveling out, according to data released Tuesday, July 28. In the last week, 62 patients died, with 11 new deaths reported Tuesday. Another 831 people tested positive.
In the Morongo Basin, there are 174 confirmed cases and four deaths. Yucca Valley has 100 cases and two deaths; Joshua Tree, 31 cases and two deaths; Twentynine Palms with 22 cases; Morongo Valley 18; Landers has two; and Pioneertown, one.
The total number of confirmed cases reported equals about 1.4 percent of the county’s population, which is 2,180,085 residents. The deaths are about 1.3 percent of the confirmed cases.
The number of hospitalized patients was down Monday, July 27. That number has hovered around 600 for the past two weeks after climbing from about 150 at the beginning of June.
The state notes hospitalization information is not complete due to changes in reporting requirements by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Some data is not being included in updates, though the state says it will be added back as soon as it is available.
