The number of coronavirus cases confirmed in San Bernardino County passed 8,000 on Wednesday (June 17) and another death has been reported. Since officials began tracking COVID-19, 229 deaths and 8,014 confirmed cases have been reported, according to a county dashboard. Testing was up 3.4 percent from the day before. So far, 95,108 people have been tested for the disease, of which 8.4 percent were positive, in the county of 2.1 million residents. The county has issued 13,269 serology tests, of which 1.21 percent were positive for coronavirus antibodies. The Morongo Basin remains unchanged with 61 confirmed cases.
Redlands has reported the most deaths so far, as well as the most adjusted for population: 37 deaths, or 5.11 per 10,000 residents. Ontario has had the second-most deaths at 30, followed by Yucaipa with 25 and Colton and Fontana with 17 each. Many of those deaths have been skilled nursing facility residents or staff: 29 out of the 37 deaths in Redlands, 16 out of 30 in Ontario, all 25 deaths in Yucaipa, nine in Colton and one in Fontana. In the past 14 days, the most new cases have been reported in San Bernardino (429), Fontana (265), Ontario (228), Chino (191) and Rialto (165).
