San Bernardino County Board to consider Landers road maintenance tax on Tuesday (5/19)

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors meets in regular session Tuesday morning (May 19).

The Board will hold a public hearing regarding a proposition that would increase property taxes in Landers to pay for local road maintenance. The proposition would authorize a ballot initiative that will increase property service charges for a special roads district in Landers. Fees would increase from $20 per parcel to $75 per parcel, with an annual increase of up to 3%. If there is no majority protest to the proposed fee increase, the County will put the fee to a vote via an election later this year. If the fee increase for the special roads district is protested, it may be dissolved.

This is the second time this initiative will come before the Board of Supervisors. Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe, who represents the Morongo Basin, missed the vote earlier this year. There was no clear majority protest at that meeting, but three Supervisors voted against it. Supervisor Rowe made assurances last month that the initiative will make its way to the ballot this year.

The Board is also expected to approve an agreement Revenue Agreement with the City of Twentynine Palms to provide wastewater system services to the City of Twentynine Palms. This agreement will provide preventative maintenance, emergency response, and support services for the City of Twentynine Palms sewer collection system and septic tanks, in the amount of $409,233.63, for the period of May 19, 2026 through May 19, 2031.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors meets in regular session Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at their Chambers at the County Government Center, located at 385 North Arrowhead Avenue in San Bernardino.
