A brand new exhibit, the Salton Sea Stories, aims to capture the optimism of the Salton Sea of the 1960s through the recently rediscovered photos of vaudeville star-turned-photographer, George Mann, and the story of Helen Burns, “Queen of the Salton Sea” as told by her daughter Donna Burns Kennedy. Mann came to the Salton Sea in 1962 and captured an area that was buzzing with possibility; it was a time capsule of optimistic development, newly opened yacht clubs, and recreation seekers all pursuing the vision of the “Salton Sea Riviera.”
