A recreational vehicle is a total loss after a fire in Johnson Valley Tuesday morning. About 11 a.m., Yucca Mesa firefighters received a call of a motor home on fire in the 51400 block of Joshua Tree Road. Passers-by, including an off-duty firemen, sprayed the RV with water from a garden hose, and were able to keep the fire from spreading to the nearby house and to a trailer attached to the rear of the motor home. The RV was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, who found their efforts at putting out the blaze complicated by leaking fuel from the vehicle’s gas tank. Firefighters put out the fire in about 10 minutes, although they spent 2 hours mopping up afterward and waiting for the resident to return home. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
