RUBBISH FIRE IN YUCCA MESA

A rubbish fire in Yucca Mesa early this morning is a perfect example of why homes need cleared areas around them. Fire Captain Rick Denison said Station 42 was called at 4:35 a.m. to a possible vehicle fire in the 59000 block of Mesa Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire fighters found a yard that was filled with scrap—old cars, swamp coolers, construction material, and other rubbish. The scrap was organized into piles which were surrounded by open aisles. One of the piles of rubbish was burning; firefighters put out the blaze in about two minutes. Denison said it was due to the cleared areas around each rubbish pile that kept the fire from spreading. Firefighters did not locate anyone at home, but did find an outdoor metal Mexican fireplace nearby that was still warm.
