On Friday, December 31, first responders were called to a crash on the highway at around 9:30 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol, Carlos Salas, 50 of Twentynine Palms, was driving his 2006 silver Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound on Highway 62 near Olympic Road in Joshua Tree within the #2 lane. Salas reportedly made an unsafe turning movement in a northerly direction, crossing the center median and westbound lanes. The vehicle struck a gas line warning marker, left the roadway and overturned. The CHP said that Salas sustained minor injuries and had previous medical issues. Carlos Salas was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center for treatment. The CHP also reported that drugs and/or alcohol do not seem to be a factor in the crash.
