We have more information on a rollover accident in Twentynine Palms last Thursday (March 17). On March 17, shortly after noon, deputies and medical personnel responded to the intersection of Lear Avenue and Two Mile Road after multiple callers to 911 stated there was a single-vehicle rollover collision near the intersection and subjects had possibly been ejected from the vehicle.
According to a Sheriff’s press release, deputies determined through victim and witness statements that Malachi Richer of Twentynine Palms was driving his vehicle northbound on Lear Avenue at about 65 mph and attempted to overtake a tractor-trailer. Richer attempted to get back into the right lane of traffic and lost control of his vehicle. Richer’s vehicle slid into the asphalt berm and flipped several times. The front passenger, who was identified as Felicia Smith, was not wearing her seat belt and ended up in the back seat.
Smith was transported to the Desert Regional Medical Center for a major back injury and possible broken ribs. Richer was transported to the Desert Regional Medical Center for a head and shoulder injury.
