San Bernardino County Investigators are investigating the death of an off-road motorcycle rider in the rugged Mojave National Preserve. According to a release, Saturday, April 27, at about 5:23 p.m., deputies from the Colorado River Station received an emergency activation of a “SPOT” GPS locating device, coming from an area of the Preserve near Goffs. Stefan Moser, 54, a resident of Santa Monica, and friends were riding off-road motorcycles on the Mohave Trail in very rough terrain. Moser reportedly ran out of water and started to exhibit signs of fatigue and heat exhaustion after falling down several times during the ride. The other riders reported his behavior as increasingly disoriented. The group stopped on Old Government Road approximately 1.2 miles east of Grotto Road while one of the riders continued on for help. Friends of the victim activated a “SPOT” GPS locator device in an attempt to contact the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department for assistance. Deputies, along with emergency medical personnel from Baker, responded to the very remote area and arrived to find CPR being performed on Moser. Stefan Moser was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedic personnel.
