The busy roads of Joshua Tree National Park need regular maintenance, and get it. Ranger Pam Tripp tells what the Road Crew does…
The Road Crew at Joshua Tree National is responsible for maintaining 85 miles of paved road, 109 miles of unpaved road and associated parking lots. Throughout the year they play an important role in the preservation of our National Park. They help mitigate the spread of invasive weeds along the road shoulders, working close with the Resource division to ensure the proper timing of shoulder maintenance to stop further spread of invasive weeds. This year’s road project consists of re-striping Park Route 12 and adjacent parking lots, and installing and replacing Stop Bars. During our desert monsoon season the Road Crew works very diligently to keep the roads safe and open, during and after a flood event. Severe rain events cause flooding throughout the Park, and as you are traveling through, be safe and proceed with caution. The Road Crew takes great pride in their work to provide the best thoroughfare for you to enjoy the park, and we wish to thank them for all their hard work.
