Westbound drivers on Highway 62 headed down the hill were in for a long wait yesterday (September 1) as road construction snarled traffic from the top of the Yucca grade to the bottom of the Morongo grade. With the current Caltrans Highway 62 construction project ongoing, traffic was reduced to one lane, causing cars to line up for miles. Drivers reported wait times from 90 minutes to 3 hours to get to the I-10 freeway. In an online post yesterday, County Supervisor Dawn Rowe stated that she spoke with Caltrans representatives who told her that crews would only be working in Eastbound lanes of Highway 62 today, however one westbound lane will remain closed. According to Caltrans reports, crews will work from Camino Del Cielo Trail to Indian Canyon Avenue going Eastbound from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Morongo Basin motorists are still encouraged to leave early and plan for traffic.
