RIEMANS HONORED WITH 9TH ANNUAL HOYT AWARD

Landers residents Steve and Ruth Rieman were honored yesterday in Joshua Tree National Park for their conservation efforts. The Park and the Joshua Tree National Park Association named the Riemans the recipients of the 9th Annual Minerva Hoyt Conservation Award at a ceremony at Cap Rock in the park, with special guests Congressman Paul Cook of Yucca Valley and Congressman Raul Ruiz of Palm Springs. The event was timed to celebrate the anniversary of Minerva Hoyt’s birthday. Hoyt’s efforts led to the establishment of then-Joshua Tree National Monument in 1936. Her contributions were acknowledged by the dedication of Mount Minerva in the Park in her honor.
