Most folks agree that Internet access is a good thing. It’s good for business, good for education, good for mapping, research, entertainment, job training… and the list goes on. The Federal Communications Commission agrees too, and in June authorized $166 million in grant funding to be added to the $1.6 billion Connect America Fund. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has more about the program and about a meeting tonight to discuss it…
Finding those who do not agree the program is good might be as easy as looking in your own back yard. That’s what those who run the Dhamma Dena Meditation Center on Giant Rock Road in Copper Mountain Mesa did and they’re not happy with what they found. The organization claims Frontier Communications erected a wireless transmission tower on their land without permit or permission. Management from the meditation center have organized a meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at the Copper Mountain Mesa Community Center on Winters Road. The community is invited to discuss concern over wireless towers going up on private property in Landers, Copper Mountain Mesa and the surrounding communities without permission, permits, or notification.
Frontier Communications has received federal grant funding to expand internet broadband and wireless access in Morongo Basin. For more information, email [email protected].
