What was first reported as a stabbing and a robbery in Joshua Tree turned out to be an attempt to avoid military service. Shortly after midnight Monday, deputies were notified that a man came into a downtown Joshua Tree business and said he had been stabbed and robbed. The victim, identified as an active duty Marine, told deputies he had been stabbed in the leg at a Yucca Valley Gas station and robbed of $400.00. During the Investigation, the Marine admitted to stabbing himself in the leg because he did not want to be in the Marines anymore. He was transported to the Twentynine Palms Marine Base and released to military authorities. His name was not released.
