A Twentynine Palms man who pleaded guilty last year to battery—and who was sentenced to a batterers’ intervention program—was arrested Saturday evening for beating up a woman. According to a Sheriff’s report, a witness called to report that John Shafer, 29, of the 74400 block of Joe Davis Drive, was beating a woman about 9:30 Friday evening. After an investigation, John Shafer was arrested on suspicion of felony spouse abuse, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000. In February 2014, Shafer was charged with felony spouse abuse, but agreed to a plea bargain of misdemeanor battery with the condition he attend a batterers’ intervention program.
