Updated: Remains in National Park believed to be missing hiker Trammell Evans

Remains found inside of Joshua Tree National Park are believed to be those of missing hiker Trammell Evans.

Evans, 25, was last seen travelling alone at Black Rock Campground on April 30. He was reported as missing on May 5.

Several search efforts were conducted over the last nine months, and an effort conducted this week located skeletal remains beleived to be Evans, according to his family.

Upadated, 1/30/24: A statement from Joshua Tree National Park indicated that the remains were found by park staff on January 25 off a trail in the Black Rock area of the park. Park staff were led to the discovery when park researchers found an unattended backpack, which was later confirmed as belonging to Trammell Evans.

The investigation into the remains is being conducted by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office. As of last night (January 29) the identity of the deceased and the cause of death have not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
