REMAINS FOUND BY DOGS IDENTIFIED

The Sheriff’s Department has released the identity of the man whose remains were found by dogs in Landers last week. On Thursday, a resident near Wright Road and Bodick Road in Landers called the Sheriff’s Department about 7 a.m. when his dogs returned home carrying a skull and what appeared to be a bone from a human arm. Sheriff investigators located the victim in an advanced state of decomposition near a cabin in the area. The victim has been identified through his fingerprints as Steven Brown, 45, of Yucaipa, who had been reported missing July 16. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. Homicide investigators are asking for the public’s help with any information that may explain what happened to Brown in the days and weeks prior to the discovery of his body. Anyone with information should call Detective Joseph Steers at 909-387-3589.
