A former Yucca Valley High School coach and substitute teacher died recently. Reginald “Reg” Ponsford III, of Yucca Valley, died July 14 in Palm Springs. He was 83 years old.
Ponsford served 30 years in the Marine Corps and retired in 1988 as a colonel. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he continued to serve his community as a volunteer for the Yucca Valley High School wrestling team, as a substitute teacher for 11 years, a referee for soccer, and an umpire for baseball. He was extremely involved with the Tri-Valley Little League and helped to build the Little League Field in Yucca Valley in the 1980s.
Reg Ponsford is survived by his wife, Betty; sons Bradley, Reginald (Quad) and partner Rachele Marsh, and Shawn and daughter-in-law Debra; seven grandchildren; and his brother, Terry and sister-in-law Pam; and a niece and nephew.
