Keeping your home and vehicle securely locked is second-nature for most of us. But protecting your identity and online privacy remains somewhat of a mystery. Reporter Mike Lipsitz brings us this story on a local organization that aims to demystify cyber security and prevent you from becoming the next victim…
More than 15 million Americans were victims of identity fraud last year. And if the trend continues, even more will become victims this year. Reach Out Morongo Basin is hosting four free monthly Cyber Security Seminars beginning April 19, at 9:30 a.m. Independent cybersecurity consultant, Alan Watkins will lead the seminars at the Twentynine Palms Senior Center on Adobe Road. Each month’s seminar will cover a different aspect of online safety. The first offers an overview of general computer security basics and home computer security hygiene. May’s topic covers staying safe when shopping, banking, and socializing online. In June, participants will learn some general definitions, trends, and how to manage them, and July’s seminar covers identity theft along with ways to spot it and prevent it.
