Reach Out Morongo Basin, a neighbors-helping-neighbors program, not only helps the low-income, elderly, and disabled with small projects around their home and yard, but with transportation services. Reach Out Morongo Basin received a $20,000 check from Morongo Basin Transit Authority last week. The donation was from MBTA’s Transportation Assistance Grant program to help with Reach Out’s transportation services, and will be used for operation costs, such as fuel, insurance, and maintenance. Morongo Basin Transit Authority staff developed a procurement program from the sale of its vehicles that results in non-publicly funded income from fees paid by other organizations in order to access MBTA’s vehicle purchasing contracts.
“MBTA is excited to be able to partner with Reach Out Morongo Basin through this grant program,” said McArthur Wright, Board Vice Chairman of MBTA, in a press release. “Reach Out offers such great services to the basin residents that closely parallel what we do at MBTA.”
Reach Out Executive Director Robin Schlosser said in a press release, “As a small organization in the Basin, this grant makes a world of difference in the lives of the low-income, senior and disabled community members we serve.”
