PUBLIC LANDS DAY IN JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK AND BIG MORONGO CANYON

Joshua Tree National Park and the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve invite volunteers to the 23rd annual National Public Lands Day events. Reporter Rebecca Havley tells us what’s going on in Joshua Tree National Park…
Mark your calendar on Saturday, September 24 from 8 a.m. till noon. National Public Lands Day is the largest single day of volunteerism on America’s public lands. It is also a fee-free day for visitors. This family-friendly event has volunteers work side-by-side with park staff. Projects include seed-cleaning, specimen mounting, measuring Joshua Trees and graffiti clean-up. Registration is at 8:00 a.m. at Oasis Visitor Center, 74485 National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms. Volunteers bring water, sunscreen and appropriate footwear no flip-flops please. All participants will receive a one-day park pass while they last. Tomorrow, Saturday, September 24, the BLM celebrates the 23rd national Public Lands Day at Big Morongo Canyon Preserve in Morongo Valley.
Projects include pulling invasive species, maintaining trails, and installing signs. Meet BLM staff at 8:00 a.m. in the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve parking area. Projects will end at noon. Participants will receive complimentary food and refreshments and meet with local and federal agency officials.
