Caltrans is working with Brightline West, the California State Transportation Agency, and the California High-Speed Rail Authority to develop an independent and privately funded electric high-speed rail system that will connect Rancho Cucamonga to Apple Valley. The train will then continue on to Las Vegas. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the public comment period on the proposal is now open…
Caltrans is accepting public comment on the second segment of the high-speed rail system that will run from Apple Valley to Rancho Cucamonga, known as the Cajon Pass. The project will serve as the second segment of the rail system that will—when completed—connect Apple Valley to Las Vegas. Caltrans entered into a lease agreement with Brightline West on the initial segment in June 2020. The Cajon Pass segment will add 50 miles to the system, primarily along the existing Interstate 15 corridor right of way, ending with a station adjacent or connected to the Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink train station. Public comment is being accepted until 5 p.m. April 13.
