A Twentynine Palms man was arrested Saturday evening after a woman said he assaulted her after she found him prowling in her backyard. According to a Sheriff’s report, the woman, who lives in the 7700 block of North Star Avenue, found Samuel Newton, 41, in her back yard shortly before 5 p.m. and tried to question him about what he was doing in her yard. The woman says that Newton grabbed her tightly by her forearms, and when she tried to get away, he stomped on her foot, causing a bruise the size of a golf-ball. The woman’s husband then grabbed a shovel and ordered Newton to lie down on the ground until deputies arrived. After an investigation, Samuel Newton was arrested for investigation of assault with serious injuries, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $100,000.
