PROSECUTION RESTS IN PHIPPS MURDER TRIAL

After 8 days and nearly three dozen witnesses, the prosecution rested its case yesterday in the murder trial of Joseph Phipps. Phipps, 42, is accused of shooting his wife, Christy Phipps, 35, in the head in their Joshua Tree home in January 2013. Phipps testified in his own defense Wednesday and denied several times shooting his wife. The defense will present its closing arguments and then the jury will begin their deliberations. Phipps has been out of custody since September after he posted $1 million bail.
