Tonight, the Twentynine Palms City Council will host an online-only meeting out of concerns around COVID-19. The council will discuss a property sale for the development of a 95-unit hotel within the boundaries of Project Phoenix. Plans call for a three-story, 75-000-square-foot “upper midscale” Hilton or Marriott hotel that would likely include a pool. Proceeds from the property sale would be put into the city’s Low- and Moderate-Income Housing Fund.
The council will also review public input, analysis, and recommendations for the Downtown Specific Plan and discuss the next steps.
Also up for discussion is the Voluntary Collection Agreement with Homeaway.com, Inc. (VRBO) to collect and remit Transient Occupancy Taxes (TOT) and Tourism Fees on behalf of their hosts. If approved, the city expects to collect $660,000.
Finally, the council will review official roles within numerous regional organizations and make the appropriate assignments.
Attendees should register for the meeting by January 25th at 6:00 p.m. when the meeting begins. They will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
