This is fire prevention week. Most house fires start in the kitchen and reporter Taylor Thacker has some fire prevention tips…
It’s time for fire prevention week! San Bernardino County Fire is joining forces with the non-profit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to remind local residents to “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” Two out of every five house fires are started in the kitchen, and most kitchen fires are caused by unattended cooking. Fire Marshall Mike Horton says, “Often when we’re called to a fire that started in the kitchen, the residents tell us that they only left the kitchen for a few minutes. Sadly, that’s all it takes for a dangerous fire to start.” To prevent kitchen fires, here are a few things you can do: stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, broiling, or boiling food. If you must leave the room, turn off the stove. If you have children, use the stove’s back burners whenever possible. Clean up food and grease from burners and stovetops. By doing these things, you can help you and your family stay safer from fires.
