POSSIBLE RABID BAT BITE VICTIM SOUGHT

County Public Health Officials are trying to find a man who may have been exposed to rabies. A bat landed on the man’s neck outside the book store at Kelso Depot near Mojave National Preserve on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. The bat tested positive for rabies. Rabies is almost always fatal in humans once symptoms begin; therefore, it is imperative that the man contact the County Public Health Department and seek medical attention immediately. Two rabid bats have been confirmed in San Bernardino County so far this year. Anyone with information about the identity of the man who had contact with the rabid bat should contact the Department of Public Health Communicable Disease Section, at 800-722-4794 or 909-356-3805 after business hours and on weekends.
