The National Park Service held a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday morning to celebrate the conclusion of the Pinto Basin Road rehabilitation project inside Joshua Tree National Park. The ribbon cutting was held at 8 a.m. at the Cholla Cactus Garden. Construction to rehabilitate 12 miles of road began in February 2013, and included reconditioning the road surface; improving drainage; repairing segments damaged by flooding; and making minor readjustments to the road to improve traffic visibility and safety. The road construction was completed last week, under budget and ahead of schedule. Due to the road re-alignment near the Cholla Cactus Garden, about 800 teddy bear cholla cactus were relocated, and transplanting the cactus will begin in the fall.
