The Palms-to-Pines Scenic Byway is a 67 mile long, fully paved, designated National Forest Scenic Byway. It offers travelers the opportunity to traverse a variety of ecosystems within a short distance. Hilary Sloane will tell you more about the lecture taking place tomorrow at the Old Schoolhouse Museum…
Originally billed as a scenic drive that would bring tourists through one of the most spectacular areas of Southern California, the Pines-to-Palms Highway also allowed residents of Indio to escape the harsh summer heat for a good night’s sleep. Author and researcher Steve Lech, a native Riverside resident spent over 2 years researching the fascinating history of this truly wonderful drive from clusters of desert palms to high country conifer forests and snow-capped mountains.
This in-person lecture is on Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at the 29 Palms Historical Society, 6760 National Park Drive, Admission is $5 at the door.
