Pickleball courts, tennis returning to Luckie Park

Do you pickelball? If so, you’ll be able to play in Twentynine Palms at the end of April.

City Recreation Division Manager Kary Minatrea and Special Events Coordinator Scott Clinkscales were the guests on last week’s “Up Close” show with Gary Daigneault. They discussed all things pickleball, including plans for new pickleball and tennis courts at Luckie Park.

“Minatrea said, “This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Pickleball is a much smaller scale version of tennis, slash ping pong. It’s high intensity, a lot of fun, everybody can play and people love it. I think it’s going to be really popular.

“If you recall, Luckie Park had tennis courts. Tennis died out a little bit, so they were converted to basketball courts. The plan was to bring back tennis, as a lot of community members had requested it, so I thought we should do a combination pickleball and tennis court.

“One of those full size courts at Luckie Park will be converted to tennis and pickleball. They are all going to be resurfaced, and that will be completed by the end of April. When it’s done, we’ll let the community know, have a ribbon cutting, and invite the community out to play!
