Noted local photographer David McChesney will offer two more photography classes in Morongo Valley. The April 25 and May 2 classes will focus on bird life in Covington Park. Managing editor Tami Roleff talked with McChesney about the classes, who says a lot of birds and bird behaviors will be on display…
“Vermillion flycatcher, Western bluebirds, Lawrence goldfinches
phainopeplas, flycatchers, western kingbirds, raptors as well.” David McChesney, a noted photographer from Joshua Tree, is passionate about photography and birds. “And we’ll probably get more tanagers, and hummingbirds, perhaps there’s some owls nesting, some Cooper’s hawks.” Both classes will start at 10 a.m. with a short talk at Cactus Mart in Morongo Valley, and then will move into Covington Park to take photos of the birds. “The opportunities are going to be pretty nice to learn more about nesting behaviors. Nest-building, feeding their young, defending their young. There will be a lot of bird-life behavior will be on display.” Covington Park is a stop for many migratory birds, and others who make their homes in our area. “The vermillion flycatchers are probably one of the prettiest birds in the Basin. Very beautiful. It’s a treat for people to see it. People come from far away just to see the vermillion flycatchers.” The classes will last four to five hours. The cost is $75 for one, or $100 for both. Call Cactus Mart at 760-363-6076 to register.
