Perseid Meteor Shower passes quietly

The Perseid Meteor shower proved to be a quieter affair in the Morongo Basin in 2024.

The event proved to be a major challenge for our community in 2023, owing to a confluence of the event occurring on a weekend, favorable light conditions, and national media coverage of the event.

Last year’s event saw an unprecedented number of visitors, causing traffic jams and a record-setting number of visitors at the national park. Observers arrived from all over the world to see the astrological event from all corners of the world.

This year’s Perseid Meteor shower was appreciated but in a way that was not specifically detrimental to the Morongo Basin. Our area was significantly quieter than the previous year, as weather and light conditions were less favorable for meteor viewing here in our Morongo Basin.
