PERSEID METEOR SHOWER

There’s a big treat in the desert sky this weekend, as our majestic night sky will host the Perseid meteor shower. Meteors will appear to “rain” into the atmosphere from the constellation Perseus, rising in the northeast sky around 11 p.m. The waxing crescent moon will be setting just when the spectacular shower is revving up. Monday night, a star party will be held at Sky’s The Limit, beginning at 8 p.m. They will offer presentations by Pam Tripp of JTNP who talk about light pollution and Ray Yeager will give a PowerPoint presentation on meteors and asteroids. There will be telescopes available to view Saturn, the moon and more. Meteor showers are best viewed near midnight and after. Please bring chairs and a red flashlight if you have one. Sky’s the Limit is located just outside the Joshua Tree National Park Entrance in Twentynine Palms.
