Two pedestrians were cited after a two-vehicle crash in Joshua Tree Saturday evening. Shortly before 6 p.m., the female pedestrians were standing in the center lane of Highway 62 southbound at El Reposo, waiting to cross the highway. Hernan Mendoza, 20, of Spokane, Washington, driving a white 2007 Mazda, thought the women were going to cross in front of him, so he braked to avoid hitting them. Mendoza was then rear-ended by a yellow Nissan XTerra, driven by Danny Phillips, 65, of Twentynine Palms. The pedestrians were uninjured; Danny Phillips suffered minor injuries but was not transported. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
