A pedestrian received major injuries after being struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk on Highway 62 in Twentynine Palms Thursday night (August 26). According to Sheriff’s reports, a 69-year-old male pedestrian was crossing Highway 62 in the crosswalk at the intersection of Encelia Avenue around 10 p.m. The victim was not able to clear the crosswalk before the highway traffic lights turned green. The 27-year-old male driver of a white Jeep Cherokee traveling westbound through the green light struck the victim in the crosswalk with the left side of his vehicle, causing significant injuries to the victim’s legs. The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. The victim was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center, then airlifted to a nearby trauma center for his injuries.
