A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Saturday evening in Morongo Valley. Morongo Valley Fire Chief Jim Brakebill said that about 6:50 p.m., a 2001 gray Toyota Avalon XL was traveling eastbound on Highway 62 when the 63-year-old female driver struck and killed a man who was crossing the highway at Lanning Lane. Brakebill said the man, identified only as being in his 60s, had been at the Country Market, and was crossing the highway to return home. He was in the eastbound slow lane when he was hit by the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken by Morongo Basin Ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center with injuries to her face, shoulders, and chest. The pedestrian has not yet been identified. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
