PEDESTRIAN INJURED ON STATE ROUTE 62 IN JOSHUA TREE

On Saturday night, a man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car as he was crossing the highway in Joshua Tree. About 8:30 p.m., Anita Barker, 53, was driving eastbound about 40 to 45 miles per hour in the number 1 lane when Arthur Comings, 73, of Fairfax, stepped off the sidewalk and attempted to cross the highway northbound, just east of Sunset. The California Highway Patrol reports that Barker attempted to avoid Comings and braked hard, but her 2001 Toyota Camry hit Comings. Barker stopped at the scene and waited for emergency personnel to arrive. Joshua Tree fire fighters said the man was alive and talking as they transported him to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. As of this morning, the California Highway Patrol says Arthur Comings is still alive.
