PEDESTRIAN HIT, SERIOUSLY INJURED IN JOSHUA TREE MONDAY

A pedestrian received major injuries when he was hit on the highway in Joshua Tree Monday evening. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Kobaly, Jennifer Pollard, 33, of Joshua Tree, was driving a 2010 Mazda 5 eastbound on Highway 62, just west of Olympic Road about 8:20 p.m. when she hit a pedestrian who was in the fast lane of the highway. Pollard pulled on to a side road to wait for emergency personnel.
A county ambulance returning to its station came across the victim, who is still unidentified, but is estimated to be in his mid-30s, lying in the center turn lane. The victim was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center and then flown by Mercy Air to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. Jennifer Pollard and one of the two minor passengers in her vehicle–a 13-year-old girl–received minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital. Anyone who may have seen the collision, or knows who the man might be is asked to call CHP Officer Joan Griffin at 760-366-3707.
