PAUL COOK BILL CREATING NEW NATIONAL SCENIC AREA PASSES CONGRESS

A bill authored by Congressman Paul Cook of Yucca Valley to protect the Alabama Hills passed unanimously in the House of Representatives Monday. Cook’s bill, H.R. 496, the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area Establishment Act, would preserve the 18,610 acres of the scenic Alabama Hills on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada for recreational use, including hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, hunting, fishing, recreational prospecting, and authorized motor vehicle use. The bill now goes to the U.S. Senate for approval.
