The superintendent and assistant superintendent of Morongo Unified School District were guests on the Up Close Show Friday, and talked about re-opening school, summer school, and a new program, the Virtual Academy. In the first part of a 3-part story, managing editor Tami Roleff says the school district says classes will be in person this fall…
“Yes, we are re-opening, in person, the buses will roll. You will see them. All our schools will be open. Our teachers are excited, we are ready. We have more technology than we’ve ever had before and we anticipate a great year.”
Superintendent Doug Weller says the school district doesn’t set the rules for whether masks will be required in order to attend school in person.
“Mask and vaccine requirements: depending on CDC we will follow those guidelines.”
Assistant Superintendent Amy Woods addressed the issue of COVID-19 vaccinations.
“Vaccination is not a part of attending school at this time.”
Weller had some good news about the future of the school district due to the American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus bill.
“Twentynine Palms High School we are actually putting in a turf field and a track, along with scoreboards, along with lights. We have everything but the bleachers.”
Woods said the school district will also use the stimulus funds for other projects such as after-school programs, additional counselors and mental health personnel, and more.
Upcoming stories will focus on summer school and the Virtual Academy.
