PALM SPRINGS TRAMWAY TO REOPEN APRIL 1
More than six weeks after a devastating flash flood, a popular Palm Springs tourist attraction is set to reopen tomorrow. Managing editor Tami Roleff has more information…
Heavy rains on Valentine’s Day caused flash flooding and extensive damage in the Morongo Basin and in the Palm Springs area as well. The road to the Palm Springs Tram was washed out, and flash flooding heavily damaged the popular tourist attraction. Over the last six weeks, workers have been fixing the road; restoring power to the mountain station; and repairing the roof, sprinkler system, water supply, and wastewater system. The Tramway’s general manager estimates that 100,000 visitors were not able to visit and the closure cost the tram about $4 million in repair costs and lost revenue. Tram hours, when it reopens, are 10 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. on week days, and 8 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. on weekends. Tickets, ranging from $16.95 to $25.95 can be purchased on its website, pstramway.com.
